Welcome
to the rural and casual lifestyle of Mariposa County, California, where
there is still plenty going on even though most restaurants are closed
by 9pm, especially in Winter.

Savories
Their
sign says Casual Dining, but all that means is you don't
have to dress up for this great fine dining establishment.

|
Sal's
Mexican Restaurant
Well
know to all the locals and fondly referred to simply as
Sal's.Bigger than it looks from the street, plus their is
outdoor seating in summer. Popular for casual business meetings
- breakfast too.
|
 |
 |
Red
Fox Restaurant
Now
actually two restaurants in one. First there is the breakfast
restaurant servng a great variety of American traditional
dishes. Then the new management take over for lunch and
dinner.
|
|
Happy
Burger Diner
Very
popular with the tourists and very early morning people,
despite their complicated and noisy ordering system. A big
landmark because of their large signs and advertising before
you even get to town.

The
Cafe at the Bug
aka
The Bug Cafe or Yosemite Bug Cafe
You
don't have to drive far for a great value, home grown, home
cooked organic meal. Just visit the Cafe at the Yosemite
Bug Cabins and Hostel in El Portal. As long as you like
the casual atmosphere and partly self-serve, you will like
the food, and probably meet some international back packers
too.
The
menu is short.. but different and excellent and affordable
every night. See their own great website
which includes pictures of their own garden.

Dazzle
Donuts
For
a good cup of coffee and a jolt of sugar (for the not yet
diabetics among you), see Dazzel Donuts, just down from
Sal's Mexican restaurant.

The
very popular Pop's Cafe next to the Shell Gas station in
Woodland, off Hiway 49 on the way to Oakhurst. Not just
Pop, but Mom and baby and junior are there for long hours
everyday.
Voted
by many the best breakfast in Mariposa. Certainly the biggest
selection of omelettes ever.

|
Facing
the mining museum sits this tiny little sandwhich show -
another old faithful post office.
|

In
the same shopping center as True Value Hardware and the
49er Supermarket, there exists High Country Health Food
store and its associated Cafe. Apparently popular with vegetarians
and real health foodies. Only open a few hours a day/week.

Maybe
we can dine together in Mariposa while we discuss real estate investments!
